Up Your Skirt Ale Label

I just wrapped up this super exhausting but completely fun project. I was asked to create 6 beer labels for my client who was giving this 6 pack of beer to a friend for christmas. The guy had won an award for his homemade micro brew and for his reward his beer was bottled and distributed in a very small quanity. Because the distributed bottles were fitted with a generic logo, my client wanted to surprise his friend with a collectors edition set that featured his likeness on the labels. This project presented a few challenges for me.

Because of the homebrews fun name, “Up Your Skirt Ale” I instantly saw this whimiscal and crazy design for the logo that featured a pair of legs and a skirt. I wouldn’t really consider myself much of a pencil artist but I knew it was going to take some effort and dedication to pull off the logo.  Here you can see the sketch that started it all.

Getting Inked
Once I had the logo sketched, the next challenge was inking it so I could scan it in and start cleaning it up. Again, with most all of my talents being computer generated, figuring out the best way to ink my design and not loose any of its effect proved to be challenging. I should point out that I am pro at it now!! HA .

All in all this was an awesome project to work on and as the story was relayed to me, The friend was so impressed that he refused to let any of the guest drink the beer in the bottles, and for fear of messing up the labels wouldn’t even let my client take the bottles out of the cooler he had used to store and transport them in.  Its nice to have your design appreciated!
